West Cornwall Healthy Living Centre
West Cornwall Healthy Living Centre is a merger of Penwith Healthy
Living Network and Kerrier Healthy Living Centre. Penwith Community
Development Trust is the lead organisation and ‘accountable
body’ for the WCHLC, working in partnership with other 3 key
and formal partners (Kerrier District Council, Cornwall Centre for
Volunteers and Penwith Volunteer Bureau), employing a project team
of 6 part-time staff working in three different locations across West
Cornwall to deliver the following activities/schemes to improve the
health and well-being for local people:
- GP Recommendation Scheme
- WCHLC Database/Website
- Volunteer Recruitment
Scheme
- Well-being Activities
For the past two and half
years, WCHLC has proved to be very successful at linking GPs, health
professionals, voluntary and community groups/organisations and individuals
together to improve health and well-being and reduce health inequality
across West Cornwall. Currently, WCHLC is working in partnership with
other Healthy Living Centres within the South West Healthy Living
Alliance to deliver the £3.96 millions regional well-being project
funded by the Big Lottery Fund. It is planned that this regional project
will start in January 2008.
Senior Volunteers Scheme for Older People
This project aims to tackle isolation and increase social interaction
by promoting volunteering activities and opportunities for older people
and connecting volunteers and the elderly people together through
a wide range of supporting services in Penwith.
