Step into Hairdressing
‘6 month Hairdressing pilot project offering young people not in education, employment or training the opportunity to experience an introduction into hairdressing’.
The programme, which is funded by the Learning and
Skills Council, through the European Social Fund, is aimed at supporting
projects that:
“Assist the disadvantaged or excluded to move closer to the labour market by improving their access to mainstream provision/ESF and domestic employment and skills provision”.
The project will run 2 days per week from Strawberry Blondes salon and be delivered by 2 qualified hairdressers. Each student will also be supported by a youth worker from PCDT who will act as a mentor and support the young person’s personal development.
Each student will receive a starter kit which will consist of tools and equipment to assist them with their development of learning these new skills. Additional training will be offered through PCDT’s training department for those who want to polish up on particular qualifications such as Literacy and Numeracy.
Young people will be identified through external agencies such as schools, youth providers and Connexions and once completed the 6 month pilot scheme will be equipped to venture into a full time course or possibility an apprenticeship.
Due to the remit of this funding the training school is only funded for the next 6 months and Strawberry Blonde and PCDT are currently seeking additional funding to enable this programme to be rolled out on a permanent basis to other young people in the Penwith area.
