GET SET, GO:
NEW HEALTH DATABASE UP AND RUNNING

A database and website offering information at the touch of a button about health and wellbeing activities and services throughout Cornwall will be launched next month.

PLACE: the Fal Building, Truro College
DATE: Thursday July 8, 10.00am-2.00pm

The project has been masterminded by the Cornwall Healthy Living Centre (CHLC) with the aim of helping people living in the county achieve a healthier lifestyle.

CHLC, a multi-agency partnership which started in West Cornwall, has now been rolled out across the county, and the launch of the database will also be a celebration of its success.

CHLC schemes include a free counselling service; a Wellbeing Volunteer scheme, which recruits people to assist with a variety of health-related community projects; and a Wellbeing Facilitator project being piloted at Stennack Surgery, St Ives, which works with GPs to signpost patients to healthy activities ranging from sailing to singing.

Some of CHLC’s student counsellors and wellbeing volunteers will be among the key speakers at the launch on July 8, which will be chaired by Anna Mankee-Williams, senior manager of Children’s Trust Cornwall.

Other guest speakers include Professor Julie Stone of the Peninsula Medical School; Lynda Quee, head of the Health Promotion Service at the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Primary Care Trust; and Inspector Mark Bolt of Devon and Cornwall Police.

CHLC aims to be at the forefront of preventative health care in Cornwall, and the launch will provide opportunities for creating links and sharing learning and good practice.

The event will be followed by a networking lunch at 1.00pm, when there will be an opportunity to talk to CHLC representatives and guest speakers.

Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend. To book for lunch, email liz@pcdt.org.uk or call 01736 334677, stating any special dietary requirements.

For more information, call CHLC chief executive Sue Guard on 01736 334651
