SUZY’S HERE TO HELP LOCAL GROUPS RAISE FUNDS

Community groups and small charities in West Cornwall are being offered a helping hand by Penwith Community Development Trust’s new funding advisor.

Suzy Messenger

Suzy Messenger has joined PCDT to search for funding sources, and provide fundraising workshops and funding surgeries.  She is aiming to bring some fresh thinking to the great fundraising challenge, particularly to groups operating in West Cornwall’s more rural localities.

Suzy’s ‘Funding Doctor’ surgeries will be taking place soon at different venues across the area and will connect with the Inter-Link Cornwall service to offer a complete package of networking, advice and support.

The West Cornwall funding advisor role is part of the Firm Foundations project, funded by the Big Lottery, which offers support, advice and training for local groups looking for funding.

Suzy will ensure that best practice advice and guidance will be available to organisations everywhere from Land’s End to the Lizard.

There are around 1,300 groups and individuals currently undertaking charitable works and volunteer fundraising activities in West Cornwall. Suzy aims to help them access cash from grants and trusts, and through fundraising activities.

She said: I'm hoping that small groups in rural communities will come forward and request my support. I can offer searches of the GRANTfinder database, one-to-one advice, and grant application guidance. There will be newsflash funding information to all on our database.

“In the pipeline is an exciting programme of mini fundraising workshops and medium-sized fundraising events. I would like to encourage groups to get in touch, and I really look forward to working with you all."
